Alan Miles

My name is Alan Miles. I trade as “Amba”, which is short for “Alan Miles Business Automation”, because that’s what I do.

I make the complex simple, and present business processes in a way that is easy to understand. Once any obvious improvements have been made, automation of the processes can provide significant business transformation. Have you considered using more automation in your business?

Here's a quotation that I appreciate, as I believe I can claim this ... “I hope you're proud of your achievements, and I hope you're eager to get to work so that decades from now you can take a look around you and say you left things a little bit better than you found them.”

David Chang, Restaurateur

Piecing together a mosaic of people, objectives, strategy and technology!

In various contexts it has been stated, "Evolve or die!". Responsiveness to change starts with understanding your business and the external factors affecting it. What sets your business apart from others, and how can that be improved? My part in answering that challenge is in business process modelling - providing a deep understanding of the business, what makes it unique, and how improvements can be made without compromise. Further opportunities for improvement may come through automation and integration.

I invite you to work with me to get a clearer understanding of your business processes and to identify possible areas for improvement.

Improve the quality of products and services delivered to customers.
  Improve profitability.
Improve satisfaction – your own, your staff's, and your customers'.

If you need someone who can get their head around how technology can enhance your business, then I’m your man. If it is important to you to get something done, I will work to find the most effective and economic way to make it happen.

I have been a developer in various ways for my whole career, but I am more than that and have a broader experience than most. For three years recently I was the IT Manager for Kiistone Business Infrastructure Limited a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Open Home Foundation of New Zealand. In that role I was responsible for the support of 350 users in 21 locations around New Zealand. I was the primary systems administrator for the 52 servers that provided services to those users in a Hyper-V Private Cloud hosted desktop environment, and in that role I developed new services to improve systems functionality. Please take a look at the reference letter I received from Kiistone.

I offer the following services:

Contract IT Manager. Establishing or upgrading essential business services (e-mail, web, applications, terminal services).
Business process modelling, process improvement, integration and automation.  Ask me about it!
Business requirements analysis and systems architecture.
Dot Net Developer using C# for Windows® Forms and Dot Net Core projects.
Expert developer with Pick®, D and UniVerse® relational databases.
Role of Product Owner in “Agile” methodology of systems development.

I enjoy solving business challenges and applying the appropriate technologies. I am a good listener, an analytical thinker, an effective communicator, and can be diplomatic when I need to be. These attributes mean that I can formulate solutions to problems and guide a project to success.

I get great satisfaction from helping a project succeed and work hard to ensure that this happens. I love what I do and know that what I have to offer is valuable in today’s ever-changing business environment.

For virtually all my career to date I have been a shareholder, director and employee of businesses I have established. So although I am a “technician” first and foremost, I have a much broader perspective and the experience to recognise the real needs of business. Also, most of the background details I have provided are in the context of working my businesses with many client companies at the same time.

I have the experience to understand management issues, and to communicate ideas in non-technical terms. I like to develop a close relationship with my customers - to be a trusted ally and have the satisfaction of seeing what I do make a real difference for the better. Innovation is required in every aspect of business today, so that you stand out from the rest, for product and service quality and design.

Contact me - I make no charge for my first consultation, and there is no obligation to take the contact any further.  Talk to me - you will not regret it!
